Joe Cooney, Admissions Counselor for the Sandler Sales and Management Trade School, has bachelors of science degrees from both the University of Michigan (experimental biology) and the University of Nebraska (civil engineering.) Even though he has two technical degrees, he realized very early in his career that the best way to use his education was on the people side of the associated industries.
Joe spent the first 5 years of his career in pharmaceutical sales. He then took on engineering roles before completing his second degree. He became an expert in design and code compliance before moving back into technical sales in the gas industry well before deregulation.
Progressing from direct sales and trading, he advanced rapidly to sales management and then general management of one of the most successful natural gas trading companies in the country. A few of his major accomplishments include:
Sales – established very profitable relationships with the largest wholesale natural gas consumers and retailers in the Midwest bringing business to a start-up company from established competitors.
Sales management – trained and managed a solid team of traders and wholesalers to increase profitability and establish the viability of a new company.
General Management - with his team, developed all the policies, procedures and compensation programs that made that start up company one of the most successful in the country.
Currently, Joe is using the skill sets he has developed to coach those seeking to strengthen their careers in his areas of expertise - Sales and Management.
